Graduation Requirements

If it extremely important that all students meet these deadlines.  If any are missed, the student will not be eligible to graduate that semester.

May 2017 Graduates:

  1. Students must be enrolled at K-State during the final semester.  This means students may NOT complete all the course requirements in Spring 2017 and then complete the portfolio requirement in Summer 2017.  The Portfolio requirement is the final exam for the program and must be completed during the final semester of enrollment in the degree program.

Planning to Complete all the Degree Requirements during Spring 2017:
    1.     Log into KSIS and complete the KSIS Graduation Application; submission deadline – March 1, 2017.  See attached screens to walk you through this process.

    2.     Portfolio submission completed by April 3, 2017.   The Portfolio site is in Canvas.  Students are required to review all pages before they will be allowed to upload any documents.  (From April 4 – 20th, the faculty will evaluate Portfolios.  Once Dr. Collins has all the scores from all faculty evaluators, then students will be sent an email telling them if they “pass” or “fail”.  What does “fail” mean?  If a student does not achieve an average passing score [3 evaluators] on a Student Learning Outcome, then Dr. Collins will contact you concerning that one SLO immediately.  (Therefore, if you do not hear from her during evaluation time period, it is a good thing.)  In the past, we have worked with students to obtain more information and then the committee [3 faculty evaluators] discusses the additional items and decides whether to “pass” the student.  To date, we have always been able to work with the student to correct the issue.)

    3.     Dr. Collins will obtain all committee member signatures and submit the Approval to Schedule Final Exam (Portfolio) to Graduate School by March 31, 2017.

    4.     Dr. Collins will email the results of the Portfolio evaluations (“Pass” or “Fail”) to students by April 26, 2017.

    5.     In order for you to graduate, you must pass the Final Exam (the Portfolio evaluation) and your Committee members must sign and submit the Final Exam Ballot to Graduate School by April 21, 2017. Dr. Collins will take care of the Final Exam Ballot form, obtain the appropriate signatures, and will make sure they are delivered to the Graduate School by the deadline.

    6.     Please plan on participating in the Graduate School Commencement Ceremony.  You will receive an email from the Graduate School concerning the events of the day. You may order your cap, tassel, gown, and hood from the K-State Bookstore.  You are receiving a Master of Science degree so the hood and tassel will be yellow.  If you look for Master of Science, you will find the correct color.  The College of Education also holds a Celebration Brunch at 10:30 a.m. the day of the Graduate School Commencement, and that is a great time to be able to see your professors again.
    7.     Commencement: Friday, May 12, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. in Bramlage Coliseum, Manhattan, KS.  Please plan on attending the Commencement ceremony. We hear students’ comment each year that it is well worth the effort. If you are traveling to the Manhattan area, check out the hotels on the Adult Education blog: (

Please complete #1 and #2 above as soon as possible.

Portfolio documents are very important. You should be working on it; collecting your assignments and aligning them with the Student Learning Outcomes; writing the reflection paper for each Student Learning Outcome. This is NOT something that can be thrown together in two weeks. Please review the documents. If you have any questions about the portfolio, please email Dr. Collins ( or Dianna Bartel (
