New Course Summer 2014

EDACE 822: International Adult Education and Literacy

This course is designed for students to learn how adult education and literacy is practiced outside the United States. In many developing countries adult education is seen as a human right that is guaranteed through legislation. It is used to build civil society, to enhance economic development and employment opportunities, and promote the welfare of individuals, communities and democratic citizenship. As a class we will explore the limits and possibilities of adult education and literacy from both a regional (primarily Africa, Asia, and Latin America) and practice (development, literacy, citizenship, and workers education) context, and then develop comparisons to our own experience.

We are connected more and more globally.  What happens in other countries affect the U.S. This course was designed to expand our international curriculum.  It will only be offered periodically, so this summer (2014)  is a great time to complete it.
