EDACE 816, Foundations of Social Justice

This course introduces the concept of social justice education (SJE) and focuses on the various theoretical lenses from which SJE can be viewed. The course introduces the principles of social justice education that promote equitable, sustainable, and transformative change in various formal and non-formal educational settings across the lifespan. The course integrates theoretical and practical aspects of social justice in local, national and international settings such as K-12 formal education, higher education, adult education, community development, and family education, agricultural education, and many more.
EDACE 845, Social Media in the 21st Century

This course exposes students to the most popular social media and helps them understand the promise and challenge that social media has brought to 21st century working adults. Example topics include but not limited to Social Media and adult learning, Social Media in the workforce, new technology literacy in 21st century, etc. Students will have opportunity to experience the use of some of the social media covered in the class and will also be given guidance on how to conduct research on current social media.
EDACE 785, Designing Classroom Instruction and Curriculum

This course focuses on the systematic approach to designing curriculum for adult learners. Components discussed include: a) identifying and writing instructional goals and objectives; b) identifying skills and knowledge to be included in instruction; c) analyzing learners and the context of the instruction; d) writing learning objectives and outcomes; e) designing instructional strategies; f) developing instructional materials including any adding blended learning techniques; g) designing and conducting formative evaluation of instruction, creating rubrics and assessments for learning outcomes; and h) designing and conducting summative evaluations. Transfer of learning and assessment concepts are the major focus of this course.

This course reviews the basics of teaching adults. Participants explore a variety of methods and techniques for teaching adults and examine the strengths, weaknesses, and appropriate applications of these methods and techniques to different adult education environments. Although theory is presented, the emphasis is on learning and sharing approaches to use in practice.

This course is limited to doctoral students. For doctoral students fulfilling their practicum requirements, the following Residency Course is being offered. Doctoral students must attend the residency portion ( May 26th thru May 29th) onsite, 9am to 4:30pm, at the Olathe Campus.
This course is designed to assist doctoral students understand the importance in participating in professional organizations, attending professional conferences, and developing and submitting successful conference research proposals. Each student will write and submit a paper proposal for a national conference, and write the first draft of their paper for conference proceedings or archives.

This course will examine how teams and leaders can be developed using adult education theory and adult learning principles. Students will identify the unique leadership challenges and opportunities facing women in organizational settings. In addition, students will explore when and how gender plays a role in organizational and personal advancement focusing on ways that women have networked, and strategized to build and negotiate what they need to be effective leaders. Students will examine characteristics of successful leaders and what unique perspectives women leaders bring to the organization. Students will examine and discuss how women and men leaders’ behavior are perceived differently in organizations by seniors, peers and subordinates.
