EDACE 780 Introduction to Adult Learning and Leadership

This is a foundation course that acquaints the student with the diverse and evolving field of adult learning and leadership. It provides a systematic base for further studies in adult learning. The broad purpose of this course is to have students explore the scope and significance of the field and its contributions to present-day learning in society. The student should leave this course with the beginning perspective of how adult learning emerged, how it is presently changing, and how it interrelates with other fields and disciplines.
EDACE 818 Critical and Social Issues in Adult Learning

Participants will examine the values, customs, mores, and communication styles of students from diverse cultures who speak English as a second language. The goal of this course is to broaden student perspectives on adult education and literacy instructional practices, and lifelong learning.

This course will be experientially based. Students will apply the theories and principles learned throughout the leadership dynamics program to a professional problem/setting. In this course, participants will interpret and critique significant literature of adult education from current and historical perspectives. Particular attention will be given to analyzing major philosophical frameworks within adult education. Based on individual or research interests, each participant will construct an adult education proposal or paper for a conference or journal.
